History and background

Zydus Hospitals in Ahmedabad is an initiative of the Zydus Group and opened in 2015 on the S. G. Highway near Sola Bridge. It is a 550-bed super-speciality hospital across 16 floors and two basement floors, accredited by NABH and NABL. It was recognised as Best Hospital in Ahmedabad by The Week–Marg survey for four years and was Gujarat's 18th hospital to win the Global Green-OT award. The hospital has appointed American- and European-trained medical specialists.

Specialities and centres of excellence

Zydus is a hub for neurology, gastrointestinal care, urology, gynaecology, oncology, spine, cosmetic and plastic surgery, nephrology and ENT, with centres of excellence in IVF, joint replacement, cancer care, neurology, cardiac surgery, kidney transplant, liver transplant, neurosurgery and plastic surgery. Its liver transplant programme is supported by a multidisciplinary team of more than 20 specialists, and across its centres in Ahmedabad and Vadodara it has performed 430+ kidney transplants, 295+ liver transplants and 220+ bone marrow transplants.

Before you travel

Preparation makes a big difference to how smoothly a medical trip goes. Ask the hospital or your coordinator for the expected length of stay, the likely total cost and what it includes, whether a family member may accompany you, and what follow-up will be needed after you return home. Confirm the treating doctor's name, the accreditation of the department you will use and how emergencies are handled.

Most international patients enter India on a medical visa, which normally requires an invitation letter from the hospital. Check the validity of your passport, arrange travel insurance that covers medical travel where possible, and plan for extra days in case treatment or recovery takes longer than expected. Keep copies of all documents on your phone and in your luggage.

Ahmedabad is served by Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport, which is close to the city, so most hospital transfers take 20 to 45 minutes depending on traffic. The city has a Metro and bus rapid transit system, taxis and ride-hailing apps, and a good range of hotels and serviced apartments around S. G. Highway and the west side of the city. Summers are very hot and dry, the monsoon runs from June to September, and the most comfortable months are November to February. Gujarati, Hindi and English are widely spoken, and vegetarian food is easy to find.
